Summer Sci Fi
One of my favourite parts of the summer is its the time when I get to read whatever I want.
In school, there were always books that I was assigned to read- books that I might have even enjoyed reading, except that having them foced on me in some class or another always made slogging through them a huge chore. But then along came the summer, Of Mice and Men got pushed to the bottom of a schoolbag I wasn't going to touch for two glorious months, and I got to read all the stuff that I probably wouldn't write a book report on.
I'm a bit older now (ok fine, a lot older), and so I don't get assigned reading any more. The summer still seems like the time when I get to read the stuff that I think is fun though, with a cool drink on a sunny patio or park bench. Who brings War and Peace to the beach, after all? I'll save that for gloomy evenings in February, thank you very much.
I'm a pretty big, nerdy science fiction fan. I love reading about post-apocalyptic futures, or virtual reality tournaments or weird alternate universes – you know, all the stuff that noone's ever going to get assigned to read about in English 101. Which is a shame, because a lot of it is really good, well-written fiction. But maybe its best to save it for the summer; after all, having to read Robopocalype for class might just kill what makes it so awesome.

I personally can never pick a favourite book. I rarely read different books by the same author (don’t know why, but I just don’t), and each author writes so differently in so many ways I find it impossible to compare. Some books have great stories, some have good characters, some have excellent dialogue, and some just have amazing structure in the writing. I can never pick my favourite book because each is so different and good in it’s own way. There’s some that are really entertaining but have major flaws. Some are well-written with great structure and intellect, but they will bore me sometimes.
I know that some may have found the “perfect book”, and maybe I just haven’t found it yet, but just based on my experience I haven’t found one that’s all around just right, so I can’t say I have found my favourite yet
I love watching Sci-Fi shows and what not, but reading I have never done before. Maybe I will try this summer, and complete at least 4 books. SHORT-TERM GOAL.
I like sci-fi. Maybe I’m not into the hardcore titles, but I’ve been reading George Orwell’s 1984 and some Bradbury short stories. I’m more of a fantasy guy, science fiction is pretty cool too.
I totally agree with you Jessica! I don’t think I’ve ever been able to find a book I thought was ‘perfect’. There are so many things to like (or to dislike) about every book, its kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

agreed! Although some of the hard core sci-fi can be pretty cool too! A lot of really amazing scientists end up writing Science fiction as a fun way to explore some of their research. For instance, all the tech in Robopocalypse actually exists in the real world today…
