Music Documentaries – the good, the great, the banned

Music docs. There's a zillion of them.  Here's a quick guide to a few available at TPL and some places to start discovering way more.  For those really hard-to-find flicks, head over to Queen Video or Suspect Video or any underground indie video shop  I assure you they have 1000% more underground stuff than that website that rhymes with "stix".  And really great people working there too!!

Here are some recent and/or awesome ones:

Sound City: the trailer

Marley

Dave Chappelle's Block Party

 What's your favourite music doc?

Beef

The Ramones End of the century

It might get loud: 3 top electric guitarists

Here's the trailer

My favourite:

Searching for Sugar Man

It seems like metal really lends itsself to documentaries: here are a few consistently on 'top flix' lists:

Metal: a Headbanger's Journey

Metallica: Some kind of monster   Here's the trailer

Anvil!: the story of anvil

The Classic Mock-umentary: Spinal Tap    Here's the trailer

Full Metal Village, about the Wacken Metal Festival in a village in northern Germany

A great doc on metalheads in a sleepy cow-grazing village.

 Get Motörhead from the library

Want to get underground?

For the underground afficionados and line-crossers, here's one recent list of banned and unreleased docs

And a terrific site with short indie docs of all kinds
