Some Disguises to Get Crafty With

Knitting, as you can probably tell, is one of my favourite crafts to make. You can knit with many different materials, like silk, bamboo, and angora, not just yarn made out of plain old wool. You can knit using many different tensions, creating garments that can fit anyone of any size. And there are always new and interesting things being published in the world of knitting, like Knit Your Own Moustache: Create 20 Knit and Crochet Disguises by Vicky Eames.

What this book provides is a series of amusing designs that permit you to make some very clever knit and
Knit Your Own Moustache Bookcrochet costume pieces. The designs include at least 5 different moustaches (Handlebar, Walrus, Classic, Sven and Dali), a Loopy Beard, a Bald Cap, a Pigtail Wig, and a crochet Bandit Mask. I really like the look of the ones for the Eye Patch, the Dapper Dandy set (this includes a crochet tophat, monocle, and pipe), and the crochet Paper Bag mask. While the designs are meant for people who have had some experience with knitting and crocheting, it does provide clear step-by-step instructions on how to make everything in the book and each design is accompanied by very sweet photos of what they're supposed to look like when completed.

I think this is an awesome book for anyone thinking of trying something very different with knitting or crocheting, and that it is definitely worth a look at for all of the different ideas for costumes it can provide.

So, if you were going to knit or crochet a disguise, what would it be?

In case anyone was wondering, I ended up making both the Adult Booties from Knitty Gritty: The Next Steps by Aneeta Patel and the knit hexaflexagon I wrote about in a previous post a few weeks ago. Both projects were lots of fun to make, and I would definitely make them again. Check out the photos below to see what both designs looked like when I completed them.

So, what kinds of crafty projects have you made this summer? Let me know.
