The Immortal Rules takes place 60 years after a virus, known as Red Lung, has wiped out most of the human population, and has left the human race utterly hopeless in its wake. Allison Sekemoto lives in one of the many vampire cities called New Covington, in a poor area called the Fringe. Her life as an Unregistered (meaning she does not give her blood to the ruling vampire) had consisted of scavenging for food, avoiding detection from gangs, and the vampire’s ‘pets’. Then the unthinkable happens one night, and Allison must carve out a new life as one of the monsters she despises most.
This book left me reeling for more. The world Julie Kagawa created was eerie and I could feel the despair pressing down onto me. Even though I disagreed with some of the characters and their actions, I couldn’t help but see things from their point of view and sympathize with them. Allie was an incredible protagonist; her constant struggle to choose between her inner demon and her humanity was so interesting to read, let alone the fact that she had weaknesses and owned up to them. I loved her dark, cynical humour that was spread throughout the book, and how she contrasted with the other characters, human or no. The amount of action within this book really kept me hooked in, but there were some necessary dialogue heavy scenes in the beginning which I found myself skimming over. The plot was amazing, and I’m thrilled on how well Kagawa managed to tie everything in together at the end, but still kept enough tension to transition over to the next book. Overall, I’m ecstatic that there is another vampire/dystopian book out on the market that does not disappoint, and my heart is still racing after that intense climax. If you’ve been looking for a bloody, twisted dystopian book for your bookshelf, or you’ve been looking for a new vampire book, look no further than this fine piece of work.

The plot sounds very dark and intriguing with such a well designed cover to match it, can’t wait to read it.
Very true, very dark.
This book is too dark for my taste but it does sound very interesting.
I’ve been wanting to read this book for quite a while. The plot is very intriguing and the first time I saw this book, it was the cover that caught my eye. I adore the cover, with just enough creepiness and darkness, and the plot seems promising as well! Can’t wait to get my hands on this one!
