Nalo at the Parkdale Library
Earlier this summer we were lucky enough to have Award-winning and wildly imaginative author Nalo Hopkinson stop by the Parkdale branch to visit the Word Out program and do a reading from her latest book, The Chaos.
Its always interesting to hear an author read from their own book; sometimes it can be amazing, and hearing the book as the author intended it can bring whole new aspects that I'd skimmed over to life. On the other hand, sometimes I wish that I hadn't heard the author at all, if they impose their own personality on a book too much through the reading, instead of letting it develop and grow on its own in the mind of the reader.
In Nalo's case I'd alredy read the Chaos (and thoroughly enjoyed it, I may add). I'm happy to say, that hearing the book read in Nalo's unique voice was a special treat, that brought characters to life in whole new ways, and had me chuckling out loud at passages I didn't even realise were jokes before. So a big shout out and thanks to Nalo for stopping by to visit!
Don't forget to check out other amazing author events at the library as a part of this summer's Word Out program!
