Quiet

Ah…now
you’ve hit on it! Quiet. There are so few truly quiet places left.

I scan
the room full of people on laptops or studying or on the Internet (with earphones,
of course) and two books come to mind.

QuietThe first is
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a
World That Can’t Stop Talking
by Susan Cain. It’s a bestseller and Toronto
Public Library offers it in various formats (some with lengthy hold lists). I
haven’t read the book yet (aforementioned hold list), but hear it’s thought-provoking.

Next, I
think of my new favourite children’s story The
Quiet Book
by Deborah Underwood. This is a lady who understands quiet and
expresses it in ways I had never considered. Some are touching, some funny, and
some even awe-inspiring. “There are many
kinds of quiet,”
begins the book, “First
one awake quiet, Jelly side down quiet, Don’t scare the robin quiet.”
On it
goes until the book ends with bedtime, as many children’s stories do. Still, a lovely gem.

Quiet Book
Christmas QuietIsn’t it
nice to hear the pause for a change?

Check out The Christmas Quiet Book too! Just do it quietly!
