Canada Day at Harbourfront
This weekend, Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre was alive with Canada Day celebrations for the whole family. To celebrate 141 years of Canada, the beautiful lakeside location was teeming with all sorts of people enjoying the numerous events organized specially for the occasion. Harbourfront Centre is a beautiful 10-acre location on Toronto’s lakeshore, and is the venue for many cultural events, Canadian and international. It is where many festivals take place all summer long, and the Canada Day celebration was a great kick-start.
Among the many festivities were the international marketplace, fun games and activities for children and their paren'ts, and, of course, food. One of the events planned for the day was the Bunch Family Dance Party. This fun family event took place on the Lakeside Terrace, beside the world café and overlooking the lake. For three hours of the afternoon, the hall rocked with music, dancing and children’s excited chatter, as they danced along with the party hosts, the Moose and the Donut. The party was MC’eed by the Mountie, and the DJ was playing tunes while the Moose and the Donut taught the children Canadian dance moves, named after famous Canadians. Some of these included the “Celine Dion”, the “Wayne Gretzky”, and the “Margaret Atwood”. The kids and paren'ts alike had a blast dancing the afternoon away.
However, this was not the only thing happening. There were numerous other events taking place throughout the day, including campfire circles, flag-making activities, art exhibits, Donut Olympics, canoe rides, international games, and much more. As darkness fell, the annual fireworks from Ontario Place lit up the night sky. Spectators ooh-ed and aah-ed as the brilliant display lit up downtown Toronto’s beautiful skyline. All day, Harbourfront was filled with crowds of people out to enjoy the beautiful summer day, and celebrate the Canada Day long weekend in a fun way.
