Ribfest

Every year, on the Canada Day long weekend, the Rotary Club of Etobicoke holds the annual Ribfest at Centennial Park. Each year, at this time, the Park is filled with tents and vendors, and even small carnival games and rides. There is the usual henna booths and fortune telling stalls, tents with clothes and accessories being sold, where one can purchase jewellery, bags, belts, hats, et cetera. Also there are other amusements, such as games of basketball, ring toss, kiddy rides, inflatable slides, and such. The main thing of course, is the food: cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream, slushies, fries, and of course, the ribs. However, the real fun of Ribfest is not all of that. It’s the crowds of chattering people, groups of visitors, large and small, wandering through the throngs, clearly having a good time, that create an atmosphere of merriment.
Ribfest is the largest Canada Day celebration in Toronto, running all weekend. This was the ninth year of Ribfest, and it is extremely popular with people of all ages. The event attracts around 100 000 visitors every year. All the money raised from the event is given back to the community, to organizations such as Trillium Health Centre, CNIB, the Salvation Army, and many more.
This year, Ribfest was just as fun as always. Tuesday night, the Etobicoke sky erupted in a flash of brilliant light as the fireworks display brought a fitting finale to the grand Canada Day celebrations.
