 The contenders have been selected for the July 6th BATTLE OF THE BOOKS launch event of Word Out! 2009.  Read up in advance and be prepared to fight for your favourite.

Jen (AKA Megan Fahlenbock) from 6Teen will be the advocate for Charlotte Gingras' Pieces of Me

Mirabelle is almost 15 and she is friendless. Dark thoughts surround her when she thinks about her paren'ts’ divorce or when she notices her ongoing bodily changes. By chance, she meets Catherine, who is carefree, confident, and also a boy-magnet. With Catherine's encouragement, Mirabelle attempts to come out of her shell. But she finds this new-found confidence is something more than she can handle.

Jude (AKA Christian Potenza) from 6Teen will be claiming the place of Jonathan Friesen's Jerk, California


Sam is an unhappy and bitter outsider with no friends, no life, and seemingly no future. He has Tourette’s Syndrome, which causes him to have involuntary jerking, twitching, and verbal outbursts. The only time he can control his body is when he takes his long distance runs. One day he meets another runner, his dream girl Naomi. Eventually he learns to accept himself and his condition through new friendships and an unexpected road trip.
