CAKE-WALK

Performance Dates: January 13 to February 4 2017

AUDITIONS will be held at the Village Playhouse, 2190 Bloor St. West (around the corner from Runnymede subway station) at the following times:

    Tuesday September 13, 2016, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
    Sunday September 18, 2016, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
    CALL BACKS: Wednesday September 21, 2016 from 7:00 pm

NOTE: Rehearsals & Performances are at 2190 Bloor St. West.

REHEARSALS:  First Read Through: TBA. Regular rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-10 pm, and Sundays 1-5 pm (& every night of tech week).

The play in a nutshell:
Canada Day cakes disappear; an archaeologist uncovers a hidden treasure; a nun considers renouncing her vows; a bride and her mom fight a custody battle for the wedding cake. A gentle comedy about life in a small Ontario town on July 1.

CHARACTERS (ages refer to characters, not actors – and are approximate):
SISTER VIVIEN LEIGH CLEARY: Mid30s, a kind, happy, good humoured, and rather sensible nun.
RUBY ABEL: late 30s – 40s, a crafty and devious Cub Scout leader.
TIFFANY SECORD: Early 20s. A lovely but self-absorbed bride-to-be.
MARTHA BRITCH: Mid 30s, best friend of Sister Vivien, always in a rush.
AUGUSTA CONNORS SECORD: 40s – 50s, Tiffany’s mother, regal yet motherly.

TAYLOR ABBOTT: (male) Late 30s, a forgetful, yet passionate, archaeologist.

PREPARATION:   Please be familiar with the play as the director will be asking you to do a cold read. Sides will be given out on date of audition. Please bring a hardcopy of your resume and headshot to your audition. You will NOT be asked to do a monologue. A hardcopy of the script will be available at the desk of the 5th floor of The Toronto Reference Library. A script is also available upon request – contact the address below for details.
