THE PLAY:
Murder, mystery, intrigue, blackmail, secrets – all staples of Steve Marsh’s mind. A prominent mystery writer, Steve finds himself inside the plot of one of his books when his wife starts receiving anonymous calls and letters, which threaten their marriage. A classic thriller in style, set in the Marsh Rosedale home, and while this play is an homage to the genre, characters are round and well-drawn, requiring more from actors than the usual “whodunit”.
CHARACTERS – 4F, 2M:
- JANE TALBOT – Female, mid-30’s, corporate lawyer, long-time friend of Pam’s. Smart, precise and intellectually curious.
- PAM MARSH – Female, mid-30’s, Steve’s wife and a University Professor (Crime Fiction). She comes from money but is grounded, confident and intelligent.
- STEVE MARSH – Male, early 40’s, prominent mystery writer and he knows it. Clever, a gamesman.
- CHRIS DODD – Female, mid-20’s. An ambitious actor who had a small part in a film version of one of Steve’s books; sister to Gemma.
- TONY BISHOP – Male, age 28. Ex-con, mechanic and would-be mystery writer trying to break in to the business.
- GEMMA DODD – Female, late 20’s. Chris’ sister, a journalist. She had an affair with Steve
