Looking for computer classes at the library?
Looking to find information on the internet? Interested in learning effective techniques to find library materials? Want to learn the basics of web design? It's now easy to find classes at the library.
Click on Programs, Classes & Exhibits on the blue banner above. On the left you will see a menu of options: click on Computer & Library Training.
If you know the name of the class or program you're looking for, simply type it into the search box. Otherwise use the categories:
Basic Computer Skills is where you start if you have little or no computer experience. Here you will find descriptions of classes such as Move that Mouse, offered in many branches of the Toronto Public Library.You will learn how to use a computer to do basic searching of the internet
To learn about the internet and the electronic publications the Library subscribes to, take a look at the courses offered under the heading Internet and Library Research. Grouped here you will find classes that teach you general research strategies, as well as classes that focus on specific topics, such as business, marketing, and urban affairs.
If you have an eReader or electronic reading device you'll want to know how to use library eBooks. Check out the courses offered in the category Introduction to eBooks.
The library offers classes on the use of web sites where you can share information such as email, social networks like Facebook, photo sharing sites like Flickr and Picasa. To find out, click on Email and Social Networking and see what branch offers these programs.
Several branches of the library now offer classes on the use of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Find out about these classes by clicking on Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
You're not done yet! You'll want to know whether your branch offers classes. To do this, cast your gaze leftwards: from the Library Branch list choose your location.
And lastly, don't forget that some branches require that you register for Computer and Library Learning programs.
