New tablet or eBook reader? Borrow free eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Updated August 21, 2014
Do you have a new smartphone, tablet or eBook reader? Check out the Toronto Public Library's eBook and eAudiobook collections and borrow titles for free. No overdue fines!
OverDrive is our most popular source of eBooks and eAudiobooks, but we do have several others. For a full list, have a look at the eBook Services webpage.
To get started on OverDrive,
- Print off the Getting Started Guide and watch one of OverDrive's Videos for your type of device.
- Make sure your library card is in good standing. If you have not used it in over a year, visit your local branch to get it renewed.
- Have a look at the Tips for getting started with OverDrive blog post. It was published in November 2011, but it is still accurate. The only change is that Kobo's new tablet is called the Arc, not the Vox.
- You may also want to have a look at the Common questions about borrowing eBooks blog post.
If you still have questions, have a look at OverDrive Help website.
- If you are still feeling unsure about the steps for using the library's ebook collection, attend an eBooks training sessions held by library staff.
If you need to learn how to use your new tablet before attempting to download an eBook, have a look at our Safari Tech Books Online collection. This collection is available through streaming technology, so you will not be able to checkout and download the eBook to your new device. However, as the eBooks are never checked out, you will be able to use them whenever you have another question.
