eBook and eAudiobook updates: More holds and new collections.
Update August 21, 2014 – Have a look at the OverDrive Update: Holds an Checkouts Maximums Increased blog post for up-to-date checkout and hold limits in OverDrive.
Users of the Toronto Public Library's eBooks and eAudiobooks should be aware of some recent changes to our services.
The Toronto Public Library's OverDrive service now allows for up to 15 checkouts and 15 holds, which is up from a maximum of 10 for each. With so many of the eBooks and eAudiobooks in this excellent collection having holds lists, the increase in the number of holds allowed should come in handy. Please note that OverDrive holds can not be made inactive.
There has been a big change to the OneClick digital audiobook collection. Up to now, all the audiobooks in the collection have been 'always available', which allowed for unlimited number of users. Now some new items in the collection will be borrowed on the one copy/one user basis, which will result in holds lists. This allows for those audiobooks which were not available through the unlimited users method to be purchased and added to the collection. OneClick digital allows for 15 audiobooks to be checked out at one time, and 10 audiobooks on hold. Users will need to Sign in to their OneClick digital accounts to see the number of copies and holds on an audiobook and to place a hold. OneClick digital is working on making this information available without signing in first.
Now there are even more TumbleBook collections available! In addition to TumbleBook Library and Audio Book Cloud, Toronto Public Library also has TumbleBookCloud and TumbleBookCloud Junior. The TumbleBook collections are a great source of ebooks for children and teens. There are both books to read and books to read-along as well as audiobooks. They contain fabulous children's authors like Melanie Watt, Loris Lesynski, Robert Munsch and Eric Walters as well as many classics. Please note that the eBooks, graphic novels, audiobooks and videos in these collections are streamed and not available for downloading.
While this is not a change, it is a good reminder. The Safari Tech Books Online collection contains materials published in the last two years, plus current year. eBooks and videos published in 2010 (and earlier) will no longer be available as of the beginning of 2013.
