According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, networking is "the exchange of information or services among individuals, groups, or institutions; specifically : the cultivation of productive relationships for employment or business". Networking can help in all stages of career development, from those seeking employment, to those just trying to build professional connections (How Can Networking Benefit Your Career Development?).

As many of you are no doubt aware, "LinkedIn® is a great way to network with people online specifically for professional purposes. It allows you to develop and maintain contacts with people in your industry, join professional groups, connect with people who you already know, search for jobs in your field and yes, find employment (6 Things To Do to Improve Your Profile on LinkedIn®)".

You will find many more eBooks and eVideos on topics of interest in Safari Tech and Business Books Online. If, for example, you enter "LinkedIn" as a keyword in the search box for the entire site (found in the upper right-hand corner of the main page), you will get almost 5,000 results (as well as over 30 videos)! Many of these are actually chapters within books, which is one of the wonderful aspects of using online resources.

To help you get started using LinkedIn®, consider attending the upcoming free LinkedIn for Job Searching workshop in Learning Centre 1 of the Toronto Reference Library, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015. Online registration is required (starting November 2, 2015). If you haven't been able to get in, please come and consult with staff in the Business, Science and Technology Department, 3rd floor, Toronto Reference Library. They can help get you started.
