Known Issues – as of July 13, 2010
- Search relevancy: Search
for library materials (books, videos, etc.) and most branches works
well. We are still working to optimize search for other types of
content, including website pages. The type of search results that come
up for different queries is highly configurable with our new search
engine, and we continue to work on fine-tuning the search to ensure
that users retrieve relevant results. Your detailed feedback about
expected results for specific searches will help us improve this. - Missing content: some of the new website’s pages are still in the process of being
built, so you may encounter dead links as well as text that hasn’t
been linked yet. - Session timeout behaviour:
when you are logged in, you may be prompted to refresh your session
even when you are actively using the site. This happens because your
session is only considered active when you use a function (placing a
hold, viewing your account) that requires logged-in status. We are
looking at ways to improve this aspect of the experience. - Incomplete and inconsistent styles: some visual design treatments have not been applied consistently across the site
- Display issues: the
website still needs some tweaks to optimize it for different
resolutions and screen sizes, and there are also some cross-browser
compatibility issues. We are not currently testing with the Opera
browser, as our statistics indicate that it is not widely used among
visitors to our site. - Related Internet Links: the links that display in the right column on search results pages are not always relevant to the user’s search.
- Sorting: title sort does not ignore some types of punctuation (. — – ( ! … © ¿)
- Program listings: some characters do not display correctly
