(Here's the attempt at High Heel Cupcakes from Cupcakes, Cookies & Pie, Oh, My!)

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a terrific long weekend. Long weekends are usually a great time to spend time with family and friends but what do we eat when we get together? I, for one, am fed up of eating the same thing everytime there's a family gathering. I would happily trade in the potato salad for loads of grilled veggies and a hearty pasta salad with chicken and shrimp.

Of course that is just my preference. In reality, you've got to offer food that the majority of people would like. With that in mind, a potluck is not such a bad idea when it comes to variety. Each person can bring a different dish. It would be a perfect opportunity to try something different. Food plays a big part in the quality of our social gatherings so it won't hurt to put a little thought into the next one you're planning.

Have you ever been to hang out at a friend's place and you hated all the food? We'd like to hear your stories and ideas for great food with friends.

What about if you had to bring dessert? What would you bring?

  1. My my. Your cupcake looks absolutely scrumptious. I would love to have a hundred of those sitting at any table on a casual eat out party.
Lemon Cream Ice-box cake. It’s so easy to make – it’s even no-bake. Whip cream with fresh lemon zest and lemon juice, then layer it together with lemon curd (store-bought, or make it yourself), and yummy graham crackers. It’s delish. I could eat this one anyday -though it might not be the healthiest … C:

  2. Pie. You can bring a variety of them! I’ve yet to meet somebody who doesn’t like any pie. If you have 5 or 6 small ones, everyone’s got to be satisfied.
There’s way too many times I’ve gone to a party and didn’t see anything I liked (believe it or not, most of those parties were set up by my own family).
But back to the pie, you can bake easily or buy, it’s fairly simple and so so incredibly delicious 🙂

  4. I really want to eat that cupcake. More than once I’ve gone over to somebody’s house, only to see the only thing I want to eat is bread. Maybe I should start bringing pie for dessert every time I visit somebody. I mean, who can say “no” to pie?

  5. I’ve gone over to too many friends’ houses where their fridge is about 90% full of half-finished bottles of sauce and not much else..

  6. Thank you, I’m glad you like it. I don’t know if I would venture into making a hundred of those without an assembly line of help, they’re pretty time consuming. Your dessert sounds delicious and also very simple to put together, I think I’m going to try it.

  7. Pie is great but I know a few people who don’t like pie. You can definitely be assured that some people at your gathering would be quite satisfied with pie, I know I would. I like my pie with ice cream but then I love ice cream with just about anything (except with the main course).

  8. Ooh, samosas are goood!
It’s a good idea to have a mix of meat and vegetarian dishes at any social event. Another thing to consider if you’re having friends over is allergies. It is wise to check with your guests beforehand about allergies and food preferences so that you can offer an appropriate choice of goodies.

  9. Mmmm good. Those sound like melt-in-your-mouth-cookies-but-healthy-on-the-side. Those would be healthy for all of use actually. I really would take down chocolate chip cookies anytime, but for extra healthy heartedness, I’d make it dark chocolate. Mention chocolate and I’m a goner for those C:

  10. Went to a lot of parties, hated all the foods, all the time. if there was pizza, then I’d jump at the opportunity. For dessert, I would have to brign an ice cream cake. EPIC MEAL TIME STYLE!

  11. When it comes to parties and gatherings, there is always one dish that I don’t exactly choose to eat. However, I have no problem trying out new foods and delicacies. For dessert, I love cake. Whether it is Ice Cream Cake or Cheese Cake, I will eat it. Although like many, I prefer those that are not too sweet and do not have much icing on it.
