Starbird Murphy and the world outside By Karen Finneyfrock

This was an excellent, enlightening read suitable for teens but relatable to all ages. The novel follows the journey of 16 year- old Starbird Murphy, who leaves behind her cult-like farm commune to find her calling, a waitressing job, in the very different, colorful city of Seattle. I found Starbird to be a very unique character. She is so innocent and naïve to reality, and therefore she is an extremely likeable character. She seems real, because quite frankly, everything that Starbird experiences on her journey is real- mostly everyday problems that we face as we develop, mature, and begin to delve into the dubious task of finding ourselves. She navigates high school, and  cell phones, both new experiences for her! Starbird begins to question her beliefs as she delves further into ‘the world outside’ and with the help of a motivated history teacher, she begins to break down the stereotypical walls associated with cults and all religions, as she finds more than just a job in Seattle, she begins to find herself.

  1. This book seems like a countrygirl with city dreams story but I don’t know, I’m not that interested in the book but if i see it anywhere I’ll give it a try.
