Common questions about borrowing eBooks

Update (August 21, 2014): The Ebsco eBooks collection has been discontinued.  OverDrive is no longer compatible with Blackberry devices.

With the recent skyrocketing popularity of eBooks, library staff have been receiving many questions about borrowing eBooks from the library.   Here are a few of the more common questions and their accompanying answers.  

Q1: For how long can I borrow an eBook?
A1:  eBooks from the OverDrive collection can be borrowed for up to 21 days.  eBooks from the Ebsco eBooks collection can be borrowed for 7 days.

Q2: What happens after the borrowing period is over?
A2: When the borrowing period has ended, the eBook file will expire and the borrower will no longer be able to open the eBook.  The expired file should be deleted from the computer and/or device.  

Q3. Is there a fee?
A3. There is no fee.  Also, as eBooks do not need to be returned, there are no overdue fines either.

Q4: Can I renew eBooks?
A4: No, items can not be renewed.  However, if a copy of the eBook is available, it can be downloaded again.

Q5: Which devices will work with the Library's eBook collections?
A5: Most of the popular mobile devices, tablet computers and eReaders will work with the OverDrive collection. One notible exception is Amazon's Kindle. A full list of compatible devices is available from OverDrive. Ebsco eBooks can be read on computers and some can be transferred to devices such as the Sony Reader and Kobo.

Q6: What kinds of books are available as eBooks?
A6: We have a diverse collection of both fiction and non-fiction as well as books for children and teens.  Here is a small selection of some of the titles available:
