**Updated** Help us organize library programs in a way that makes sense!

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that we're doing a crowdsourcing exercise to help with refining the search interface and information architecture of the new website's programs section.

*UPDATE* Thanks to everyone who participated in our online card sort. Based on your input, we've winnowed library programs down to a small set of meaningful categories that should be easy to browse. (We started out with about 29 categories, so this will be a big improvement!)

  1. I’m realizing there is no way for blog readers to raise a new topic here. We can only comment on existing topics. And with the blog format you are using, comments are so barelyl noticeable…anyway, I’m commenting on making library programs sensibly organized but what I want to ask is related to that logging in and going to My Account. Another way of logging in, with the old catalog, was to start one’s interaction with the library site by doing a search. Only if you have the matgerial will I bother logging in. OK great, you have it, now I’ll reserve it by logging in. Then as long as I’m here, might as well check on my other reserves. With the old catalog, no problem, it remembered who I was. This new catalog has instant amnesia and requires me to log in AGAIN. Surely this can be solved in similarly to the way you solved the previous problem, without taking a year.
Oh and by the way is it possibly to add an ’email me when there is a reply to this’ box to the blog?
Thanks for all your great work.

  3. Hi Jmoney,
First, sorry for the late reply/comment approval, I’ve had my head down in other things after a long weekend.
Improvements to catalogue login functionality and addressing the login amnesia (good phrase BTW) is one of the things we’re working on for the website redesign. You should see improvements to how Your Account and login behave with the new launch.
As for an email notification when a comment has been replied to–I’m not sure the current comment setup has that functionality. I believe the Typepad Connect code (which improves community functions like comments) might, but it’s still in beta (though pretty stable by now I think) and we haven’t implemented it yet. I’ll look into it, I agree it would be a good feature.

  5. Hi UI designer
Have you created and checked the user scenarios? I would have in my account a personal storage for the books which have been held before and which I am going to read soon.
    Thanks,
    Victor

  7. Hi Victor,
Allowing users to create and manage book lists is definitely one of the top scenarios we want to address. Thanks for letting us know that this is a priority for you.

  9. The library website didn’t load on Thursday November 18th 2010, when i tried to log in to my account. It still didn’t work after i exited internet and even if i refresh the page. So i cant log in and i can’t put holds on books. I hope you can fix this glitch. Thank you!
