Some websites unavailability this morning
We are making some changes to our network this morning as part of the continuing transition to the new website. You may experience unavailability, slowness or other issues with the old website, the new website, the catalogue or other Toronto Public Library web presence during this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have the work finished quickly.
We'll keep this post updated as needed with information.
8:36 AM: Work is still going on. If you're looking for holds/account information/book search, you can still use the old catalogue at http://oldcatalogue.torontopubliclibrary.ca
9:54 AM: Most services are back and functioning on the main website. The "new" website many of you have been using at the "beta" address is now the main site. A few outstanding issues are being worked on. We'll keep you updated, and thanks again for your patience during this transition.
10:38 AM: We're experiencing some issues with our underlying catalogue software. Book searches will work on the main website, but account-related functions like placing a hold are unavailable (you may receive a message saying your library card and/or PIN number are invalid when attempting to use these functions, even if they are valid). We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.
10:52 AM: Catalogue issues described in the previous update now appear to be resolved. Again, thanks for your patience.

Hello,
I realize you’re doing some work on the system but it’s now telling me that my library card number and pin are invalid…thus I can’t get into my records to do anything – place a hold, renew, or just view what I have out. I can search for a book and see if it is available, but I can’t put it on hold.
Hope you can get this fixed quickly.

As of about 10:30 AM we are experiencing some issues with the underlying catalogue software. Book search will work on the new website, but account-related functions such as holds placement will not. We’re working to fix the issues as quickly as possible–apologies for the inconvenience & thank you for your patience.

What’s happened to the more detailed descriptions of the Canadiana Room and Genealogy collections at North York Central? What information I see now is bare-bones, and too general to be of much help.

We’re still re-creating some of the old website content on the new site. We started with the most frequently used pages and will work our way through the rest over the next few months.

Any word on a TPL mobile site suitable for phones and PDAs? The “new” site still loads ponderously, too many links and graphics, and can be slow to navigate. Good luck with the move anyway!

It is already night, 11:45 pm, but I still can not sign in my account to renew some items. So, I have to return them early morning or pay overdue. What to do?

Hi Renat, Last night there was network maintenance that was unexpected. All services were unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience. Call your branch this morning and tell them which books you wanted to renew online last night but couldn’t. If you incurred any fines as a result of the outage your branch will waive charges. Thanks for your patience and again apologies.
