Email reminders to help you return your library materials on time

We’re very happy to announce that, starting today, you can sign up to receive emails to remind you of your checked-out items two days before the items are due.

How to get the email reminders

You can opt in to receive due date reminders in the new Notification Settings section of your account.

See our frequently asked questions about email notification and email address confirmation instructions for more help.

Manage your settings

The new Notification Settings area in your account allows you to directly manage your email address and preferences. If you've had problems with email notification in the past, check your settings and review our troubleshooting tips, or contact us for help.

Can I get due date reminders by phone or text message?

No, this service is only available via email.

Caveat: it’s still your responsibility to return your items on time.

Due date reminders give you an additional way to keep track of when items are due, but you will still be charged fines if an item is returned late, even if (for any reason) you do not receive a reminder notice. You can always check what you have borrowed and when it’s due by looking at your account online.

  1. Thank you for arranging this notification! I would like to suggest the same for picking up holds, if possible. Also, when we get the email notification to return our items, it would be great if there was a section in the email saying whether or not the item is renewable or not.

  2. Hi Lucia,
We do send email notifications when your holds become available. Are you thinking of an additional reminder right before the pickup deadline?
Your make a good point about wanting to know if an item can be renewed. There’s some complexity involved because whether or not an item can be renewed depends on demand and availability (number of holds and available copies) at the time you try to renew. Even if an item was eligible for renewal when we sent your email reminder, it might no longer be renewable by the time you opened the email and tried to renew online.
Thank you for your feedback – we hope to continue improving our notification options in the future.

  3. Hi, Sandra
That is what I meant regarding the holds 🙂 Just as there are now email notifications reminding us to return items, it would be great just for another slight nudge to pick up our holds. I haven’t had to pay the $1.00 fine for missing my holds yet, but it would be nice being able to stay at the library longer than running in and out before closing time to pick up materials.
Thank you to TPL for all their hard work!
