Interested in shaping the future of the TPL website?
We have a lot of great things we would like to accomplish on the TPL website over the coming months and we’re looking for people to help. We are creating an advisory group of interested Toronto Public Library members who would like to share their opinions and shape the future of the TPL website. Group members may be invited to participate in occasional surveys, online discussions, usability tests or other consultation to provide feedback on the TPL website.
If this sounds like something you would like to join, please complete this brief survey.
Questions? Find out more about the Website Advisory Group or contact us at webteam@torontopubliclibrary.ca.

Can’t pay fines and charges online!?! Pathetic! Not to mention short-sighted and inconvenient. If the TPL were a bank, it would have gone under long ago. BTW, did I mention Pathetic already!? Wake Up!
Don’t bother responding to my comment if you’re just gonna shovel me an excuse for why the TPL is NOT offering on-line payment.

Yes, yes, of course, Dan. “Pathetic.” What you don’t know – well, that would apparen’tly fill volumes, but on this topic you should know that online fine payment is a project in long gestation. One of the many issues is recovering the fees that banks ding TPL for such transactions. It’s all well documented in the shitty PDFs TPL passes off as legible documents at its Board meetings.
You could look it up. Or ask a librarian to help you. Your choice. (And your “shovel.”)

Hi Dan,
No excuses here, just word that online payment of fines is in its final phase of testing and is expected to be available within the next 8 weeks.
Sincere apologies that getting sought-after features out the door has been taking so long. No excuses there either because we should be much faster, and we are definitely trying to work on that.

Jeez, the previous commenters are harsh. (Is anyone else reminded of the public meetings on the TV show “Parks and Recreation”?)
Ahem.
Anyway, I think the website is great, but while the renovations are being done, I would suggest one thing: a “Wish List” feature, where you could make a queue of books that you want to read, but without actually placing a hold. Then from the Wish List (or Reading List, or whatever you want to call it), you can just click one button to place a hold on it and have it delivered to your local branch. That would be awesome!
Thanks very much.

A wish list feature is definitely something we’d like to add. Thanks for the feedback, Geoff.
I second the idea for a “wish list” or “reading list” where I can store reading ideas that I’m not yet ready to put a hold on.
Congrats to Dara Renton for a elegant response to the very rude “Dan”.
While this does not really replace a wishlist, you can create one by making your holds inactive. That way, you move up to the top of the queue but you don’t actually get the book until you make your hold active.
Hi Vijay,
thanks for the reply. yes I sometimes use the inactive hold option as a wish list, but this becomes impossible when I fill up my hold list with items that have a LONG waiting time. 🙂 I realize that asking to up the maximum number of hold items is probably too much to ask for.
thanks
Can you stop the “your session has timed out” screen from popping up every 10 minutes or so. I tend to spend HOURS, not minutes, on your site and really resent the constant interruptions.
jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
We feel your pain! The session timeout is high on our list of most annoying issues. We hope to have a fix for it later in 2014. Thanks for your patience.
