Kidnapped and held for months
I just read Held by Edith Ravet and like any other really good book, I couldn't put it down.
17 year old Chloe gets kidnapped while working in Greece. Her captor takes her as part of a prisoner exchange and keeps her hidden first in a warehouse and later in a basement. Chloe starts off hating her captor and wanting to escape. But somehow during her time in captivity something changes inside Chloe and suddenly she's not so sure she wants to leave. Is Chloe suffering from the Stolkholm syndrome, a phenomenom which makes a prisoner have a strong empathy for her captor?
Held is a compelling read. The unnamed captor is a fascinating character who is difficult to pin down. I kept wondering if he had developed real feelings for Chloe or if he was just following a well-laid plan. You'll have to read the book and decide for yourself.
There were lots of layers in the book and when I finished I just wanted to read it again. (Which of course I did). Highly, highly recommended. (10/10)

Wow that book sounds really interesting. I find the plot to be really suspenseful. I will definitely read it, it’s also a new book. I find many books with the heroine’s name as Chloe to be really interesting like Summoning.

AACKKK! I love these kind of books! I’m definitely going to check this out. Like, immediately. My family is tired of hearing from the library, telling me that I have some books on hold that have arrived. Oh well, they’re are going to have to live with it… for probably ever.

This reminds me of two really great books I’ve read.
The first is Room by Emma Donoghue, a Canadian read that seems to be really popular right now! It’s a story told from the perspective of a five year old boy who’s mother was kidnapped and held for seven years in an enclosed garden shed. The boy, Jack, believes that the Room is all there is to the world but is oblivious to the fact that his Ma grows more and more anxious to escape.
The second is Stolen by Lucy Christopher. It’s about girl named Gemma who was taken by her captor, Ty to an isolated desert. He believes he is in love with her and wants her to love him back. At first, Gemma vehemently fights him off but as time passes, sympathy and other emotions start creeping in.
So if you like Held, I suggest both books above!

Are they both really that good? I saw that room was being vastly read by so much people but is it really good as all people seeem to make it? or is it okay? The second sounds good, like stockholm syndrome? i didn’t know what that was for a while also or why muse decided to name a son stockholm syndrome lmao:P

Oddly, I actually KNOW somoeone who was kidnapped in Greece and held hostage (for a short while, though), so reading this totally gave me the chills. I may just have to skip it for that reason, but it sounds like it would be a fascinating read otherwise!

I’ve read Taken and while it’s similar in the sense that the two girls are kidnapped, it’s different in every other way. Held is way better. Taken is more of a ‘survival in the wilderness’ type book. Most of the book is about how the girl escapes the cabin she’s being held in and tries to make it back home through the forest. With Held it’s all about the time Chloe spends with her captor. Once you read it, let me know if you agree.
