The Sounds of a Tatted Summer
While we are all reading this summer, I cannot help to think about how music is so crucial to my summers. How many of us have heard a song and then suddenly remembered a great memory that we may have completely forgot about or even just brings back the feeling of summer. I know that many authors also incorporate their own songs lists into their novels.
John Green extols the virtues of Neutral Milk Hotel (yes, that is a band, and yes, they are that awesome.)
Nick Hornby centered an entire books around top ten/five songs list in his book, "High Fidelity." They made this book into a film as well with Jack Black and John Cusack which is epic in my books. Sarahbeth Purcell even writes down various playlist in her awesome road trip novel, Love is the Drug
So here a compilation of my own personal summer soundtrack

It may or may not be true Tatted Librarian thinks that if the world listened to "Angel of Death" by Slayer live in concert once in a while that the world would be signficantly less angry. She is also convinced that Alan H would probably agree with her.

This has given me some excellent ideas to chase for the summer.
I know Wired magazine also tells its readers what they were listening to when they put each issue together.
For some reason when I think of listening to songs that remind of a past time, all I can’think of is music from my teenage angst phase when things were very very angry and self-victimizing. HA! (perhaps I should have gone to a Slayer concert once or twice while I was 13?) And now that I’m able to speak of this phase now past, I feel very very old.
Anyway, to enjoy my summer, I foresee a lot of listening of Tokyo Police Club’s album Champ and well as some love from Michou 🙂
Smashmouth! Luuurve. Pairs in my head with Sugar Ray and that Uncle Cracker video driving around in a truck.Ha!
But summer for me is about surf punk, Ramonescore, and Beach Boys. So, basically, The Riverdales, The Queers, that sort of Lookout catalogue goodie.
Oh, also! Have you read Love is a Mix Tape? Fantastic music novel/memoir. Also about to read his other title, Talking to Girls About Duran Duran. Should be pure 80s nostalgia.
Wow, all these songs seem perfect for the Summer, i wish i saw this earlier before i went on my road trip so i could have listened to good songs in the car! Oh well, I’m definitely saving this page! 🙂
I watched High Fidelity a few years ago, and I think I remember enjoying it…
But yes, summer songs, camp songs loop my head in the summer time from when I worked at a camp. I enjoyed singing them so much, I tried to teach them to my siblings and friends, but sadly, they did not have my enthusiasm for them. I wish that I had something cooler to list year besides “Brown squirrel, brown squirrel, swish your bushy tail, shh, shh, shh”.
