The Monster Mash
In the spirit of Seth Grahame-Smith's mash up of Jane Austen – Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the ambitious and incredibly talented author Michael Thomas Ford has created a new mash up that is a little bit more tongue in cheek. Jane Bites Back is an amazing novel of both humorous and adventurous proportions.
It is not very well known that Jane Austen is undead and indeed still very much interested in getting her last novel published. However, no one will publish her last manuscript as they find it to be a little too Jane Austenesque. Feeling a little bitter and defeated Jane continues to run her bookshop, be annoyed the recent resurgence in Jane Austen novels and the fact that she is not getting a single penny off of any of her works.
Finally Jane's new novel is accepted and published putting Jane very much into the mainstreams eye. Will she be able to hide the fact that she is a member of the undead? Or will she be "outed" from the coffin and force to face the world? Also – who is this mysterious man that is appearing about town lately; he seems awfully familiar.
Jane Bites Back is a fantastic novel that is both a tribute and a send up to the mash up books that are so de rig-eur these days. And if you enjoy please make sure to check out the sequel title: Jane Goes Batty.
