LawDepot offers do-it-yourself legal forms relating to wills, power of attorney, loan agreements, bills of sale, residential lease agreements, landlord/tenant notices, employment and other business contracts, marriage & family law and more.

All forms, contracts and agreements are created by a team of lawyers and are updated regularly. The documents are based on Canadian provincial and federal laws.

Some documents and services offered by LawDepot are excluded from public library subscriptions. The services not available are:

  • Business incorporation in all regions – federal and provincial
  • Business Name Search (NUANS report)
  • Corporate Services
  • Corporate Supplies
  • Talk to a Lawyer

LawDepot and Your Privacy

LawDepot is a third-party service that is governed by its own Terms of Use, Legal Disclaimer, Privacy Policy, and Editorial Policy. We advise you to review these documents before using this service.

Toronto Public Library does not collect, use, or disclose any personal information as part of a TPL customer’s use of LawDepot. Any privacy questions around use of this service should be directed to LawDepot.

How to Access LawDepot

When you sign into LawDepot through the library, a LawDepot account is created that is linked to your library card number. Personal accounts cannot be used with the Library’s subscription.

On mobile devices:

Access LawDepot through OverDrive’s Libby app. If you are new to Libby, download the app and follow the prompts to sign into Libby with your Toronto Public Library card. More information on this process is available at Libby Help.

  1. Launch the Libby app on your mobile device.
  2. In the Library section of the app, scroll down to the Extras section.
  3. Select on LawDepot.
  4. Select Get, then select Open.
  5. A browser will launch and open the LawDepot OverDrive Extras webpage. Select on Get Access then select Continue to LawDepot.
  6. A 30-day LawDepot pass will be assigned to your Libby account. The LawDepot Canada website will open and sign in using the LawDepot account linked to your library card. If this is your first time using LawDepot, the account will be created during this process.
  7. The active LawDepot pass is available under Extras in the Shelf of your Libby app. Select the pass to return to LawDepot anytime during the borrowing period.

On computers:

  1. Go to LawDepot or https://tpl.ca/resource/lawdepot
  2. Select LawDepot>> (the title)

  3. On the LawDepot OverDrive Extras webpage, click on Get a pass.
  4. Sign in with your Toronto Public Library card.
  5. Read the pop-up message and the select Continue to LawDepot.
  6. A 30-day LawDepot pass will be checked out to your OverDrive account. The LawDepot Canada website will open and sign in using the LawDepot account link to your library card. If this is your first time using LawDepot, the account will be created during this process.
  7. Repeat the process to return to LawDepot anytime during the borrowing period.

Using LawDepot

There are no limits on the number of documents that can be created with a LawDepot pass. However, some documents and services are not included in public library subscriptions.

  1. Start by selecting New Document on the homepage. Use a keyword to search all documents. Alternatively, choose the type of document from the menu. Select More>> to see the full list.

  2. Create a document by providing responses to the questions asked.
  3. Select the Save and Continue and Skip this step for now buttons if you are unsure of the information requested.
  4. The document will be formatted automatically and can be previewed while in progress.
  5. When you have completed the document, you will be able to print, download, change you answers, change the text in the document, and create a new document of this type.

  6. LawDepot also offers eSign to digitally sign and complete documents.
  7. Your documents are stored in the My Documents part of Account.
  8. To delete a document, open My Documents and select the three dots to view the menu. Select Delete.
