Help us plan the future of library services

This-book-is-from-the-futureHere at Web Team Headquarters, we spend a lot of time thinking about the future. We live online; we love gadgets; we dream in HTML5. We also agree with William Gibson's observation that "the future is already  here – it's just not very evenly distributed." As access to knowledge and culture becomes increasingly mediated by technology, we hope the library can help distribute the future a little more evenly and ensure that everyone in Toronto is able to fully participate in it.

Toronto Public Library is taking a big-picture look at the future right now as part of the strategic planning process, and we want your input. This is your opportunity to tell us what services are most important to you and what we could do to improve them. We'd especially love to hear your ideas about the library website, eBooks, and Internet access in library branches, but we welcome input on any aspect of library service.

Tell us what you want from your library:

We look forward to hearing from you.

  1. The new overdrive web site is an exercise in frustration for users who have ‘dinosaur’ computers. It is extremely use UNfriendly. The old system allowed me to select a book and then go back into the books available list. This is no longer possible. “return to library” sends me back to the initial page and I have to go through the whole rigamarole again as does the back arrow.
You’ve improved the system beyond what was required for your frequent users (seniors!!!!!!) \
I have already complained about this but noone seems to care as I didn’t receive a reply the first time.

  3. Hi s.korulis,
Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the problems you’re having with the new interface for the OverDrive service.
Toronto Public Library migrated to the new OverDrive platform because the old version was no longer going to be supported by the vendor. The Next Generation platform is still relatively new, and OverDrive has said they will continue to make improvements to the interface in priority order based on customer feedback.
I will pass your comments along to OverDrive, and you are also welcome to contact them directly with specific suggestions or for help with technical issues:
