iPhone/iPad/iPod eBook users: important information about OverDrive and iOS7

September 19, 2013 | TPL Staff | Comments (17)

The new iOS7 operating system for Apple mobile devices (released yesterday) has led to some problems for OverDrive users who read eBooks on iPhones, iPads, or iPods. When you try to open an eBook, the OverDrive app won't work.

The recommended solution is to re-authorize the OverDrive Media Console app with your Adobe Digital Editions ID.

  1. Within the OverDrive app, tap Settings in the Home menu.
  2. Tap Deauthorize.
  3. Sign back in with your Adobe ID.

  1. Hi Bill,
When you go into the Settings on the app, you should see an option to Deauthorize. If you don’t, you might want to try deleting the app and then re-installing it. You will lose any items you have already downloaded as well as your history and app settings. Items can be downloaded again from the library site. You can refer to this guide from OverDrive about how to save your history if you want before deleting. http://help.overdrive.com/article/0059/What-to-do-if-a-title-is-not-properly-loading-or-OverDrives-mobile-app-is-crashing
    Hope this helps,

  5. Hi Carol,
You will not lose the book – it will still be in your Bookshelf on the TPL OverDrive site. You will have to download it again onto the app once you authorize your device again.

  7. I had the same problem described above with ipad mini and new IOS7 software. I deleted overdrive, reloaded it from itunes, set up my accounts again with Toronto Library. When I went to my bookshelf, the books I have downloaded were still there. Am now able to open the books, it worked. Thanks for the advise to all out there.
